My whole life I had wanted to be a lawyerโฆthen, I became one.
Once I WAS a lawyer, I discovered that practicing my craft made me feel like my soul was drying up inside of me. Not fun.
But what was I going to do?
I had just invested SO much time, energy, money in attending one of the most prestigious law schools in the world, Berkeley Law, and had finally reached my dream of becoming an international human right lawyer.
But I was SO unhappy.
SO miserable.
Every day was soooo hard.
After law school, I, alongside my law school buddies, took the CA Bar Exam, a three-day exam experience from hell.
We studied for MONTHS for this exam that has a 37.2% passage rate. And then, the day arrived. There I was in the examination room, feeling sick to my stomach.
I remember having to rush to the bathroom because I felt SOOOO anxious, so sick to my stomach that I thought I was going to pass out.
I took the test, and was SO relieved when it was over.
Then, a few months later I got the score.
a 1429.87โฆ
I needed a 1440 to pass.
I was just TEN marginal points away from passing.
I. Was. ELATED!!!
This was my ticket to freedom.
Iโm convinced this was GOD whispering: โthis is your chance, do what makes your soul come alive. You get ONE life. Now go LIVE your life!!โ
I would NOT re-take this test, and I would do what was true in my soul & heart since that first year of law-school. I would not go on as an attorney.
All throughout law school, I mostly hung out with friends at the business school. Go figure. I even had thought of doing my joint JD-MBA, since I felt much more alignment with the business world.
So here I was, a lawyer that wanted to create a career in business. I hadnโt been to school for it, and knew very little about the world of businessโฆ

And over the last 8 years, I have worked on re-inventing myself.
I spent 5 years working in Silicon Valley.
The last 3 years focused on supporting small business owners like my dad.
I remember one of my first training events for learning how to become the business owner I wanted to be- it was very clear.
๐ ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐บ๐๐๐ฒ๐น๐ณ.
What I knew then was not enough to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish as a business owner. I had SO much to learn.
And you know what? Time passed.
And now I look back at Luz from 8 years ago, who had such a long way to go. Who had sooo many new things to learn and many to un-learn. Who had areas to master that she didnโt even know existedโฆ
And the same might be true for you.
You might be there- and you might be asked to reinvent yourself.
You might have to learn so many things you donโt know yet.
You will be asked to stretch yourself in unexpected ways.
But, let me tell you.

Today, I am HAPPY
Today, I LOVE what I get to do for work
All the hard-times, which I had no idea I would face, were so worth the life I have now
Today, I am GREAT at what I do, I LOVE my clients, and I absolutely LOVE my business
It energizes me
It pushes me to grow, and I am excited to keep learning and grow it
Every day is full of alignment, joy, and LOVE
So yes, to live the life that is true for YOU, you may have to completely reinvent yourself
There might not be a clear path in terms of HOW to do this
But just know that it WILL be worth it
You will get there
This is part of your path, your dharma, your evolution here
And yes, you CAN do this.
